Stable, hydrophilic polysiloxane elastomer prodn. - by penetration of reactive metal or oxide particles into the moulded elastomer, used as contact lens
Hydrophilic surfaces are produced on polysiloxane elastomers, opt. contg. fillers or reinforcing materials, by causing reacting Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, No, Si, Ge, Al or Mn or their (sub)oxides to penetrate into the surface of the moulded elastomer, from the gas phase, as neutral particles, with...

Zusammenfassung: | Hydrophilic surfaces are produced on polysiloxane elastomers, opt. contg. fillers or reinforcing materials, by causing reacting Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, No, Si, Ge, Al or Mn or their (sub)oxides to penetrate into the surface of the moulded elastomer, from the gas phase, as neutral particles, with a kinetic energy >3 eV. The treated elastomer has improved stability to mechanical, hydrolytic and chemical effects, and higher physiological compatibility. Inclusion of additives in the elastomer is not limited. The surface may be partly treated, by use of masks. The moulded article is esp. a contact lens. |
