Horizontal drum washing machiens driven from a motor system contained in a tilting lid are provided with a supplementary fan and heater for blowing warm air through the drum to dry the contents. The fan may be driven either from a separate motor or from the drum drive, pref. via a coupling which drives the fan in a constant direction regardless of alternating directions of rotation of the drum. Pref. the fan is automatically disengaged when the lid is raised and during the wet phase of the washing cycle. Esp. for light duty machines of simplified construction to class (II) electrical standards.
