Winning copper and other nonferrous metals from ores - using flame smelter followed by electric redn. furnace and converter
The flame smelting produces material (1) contg. 70-98% Cu; fly ash which is re-smelted; and slag (F1) contg. 1% S, which is treated with coke at 1300-1550 degrees C. in the electric furnace to obtain Cu-Pb-Fe material (2) and slag (E1) contg. 0.5% Cu. Materials (1,2) are refined in the converter to...

Zusammenfassung: | The flame smelting produces material (1) contg. 70-98% Cu; fly ash which is re-smelted; and slag (F1) contg. 1% S, which is treated with coke at 1300-1550 degrees C. in the electric furnace to obtain Cu-Pb-Fe material (2) and slag (E1) contg. 0.5% Cu. Materials (1,2) are refined in the converter to produce blister copper and slag (C1) contg. 1% S recycled to the electric furnace. The fly ash obtd. is used as a source of other metals, e.g. Zn, Pb. When the ore or concentrate contains significant amts. of Co and/or Ni, the bulk of these metals occurs in material (2) which is pref. treated separately to recover the Co and/or Ni, esp. by using a two stage electric furnace treatment. Used for the recovery of Cu and other metals from unusual ores etc. |
