In parent patent, the continuous prodn. of N-alkylarylamines (I) comprises gas-phase reaction of arylamines (II) with alcohols (III) and/or dialkyl ethers (IV) at 180-450 degrees C in presence of carriers contg. oxyacids of P. The catalyst used is silica of internal surface 50-500 m2/g and H3PO4 content 0.1-20 wt.% and during the reaction H3PO4 and/or alkyl phosphates are continuously supplied to the catalyst. In this addition (II) and (III) or (IV) are introduced as gases at a temp. equal to or greater than the reaction temp. By using the reactants to heat the catalyst, surface coking is reduced.
