Zusammenfassung:The combustible mixt. contains 15-25 moles% acetylene and 85-75% ethylene. The compressed gas is stored in a porous compsn., at a press. of 15-110 bars and at between -30 and +35 degrees C. The gas mixt. esp. contains 20 moles% acetylene and 80% ethylene. The gas mixt. is stored in a metal, press-resistant container, lined with a porous material, e.g. monolithic silico-limestone, a powdered compsn. contg. wood charcoal and infusorial earth, a porous compsn. based on porous C surrounded by Zn oxychloride cement, or Al slag. The capacity of the container may be 1-160 litres. Use of a solvent is avoided. The explosion limits are: acetylene, 1.4 bar; acetylene + ethylene (25:75 molar), is not 15 bars; acetylene + ethylene (20:80 molar), >30 bars. Storage bottles can be filled more rapidly, and the amt. of residual gas can be measured easily by determination of the press. at a given temp. The method can be used in all climates. The gas mixt. is stable under press. and a gas of constant compsn. can be withdrawn from the bottle. Soldering can be carried out at high speed, and is good as with an acetylene flame. Flame control is easy. Oxygen consumption is 1.7-1.8 vols/vol gas.
