Zusammenfassung: | Oil well drilling fluids based on oil, water or emulsions, contains added thickening agent, and ilmenite of particle size such that 85 wt % passes a 0.044 mm (325 mesh) sieve as weighting agent, in amount sufficient to give the required density. The ilmenite is of sufficient purity to have a density of 4.3 min. Fluid is used as coolant, lubricant, hydrostatic head, etc. in sinking of boreholes by continuous drilling. Ilmenite is harder than barytes and does not suffer particle size reduction with consequent increase in viscosity of the fluid during continuous circulation. Density is almost the same as that of barytes, allowing the same tables to be used to calculate the amt. required. |
