Zusammenfassung:The opto-electronic strain gauge provides greater output per unit of applied force with high temperature stability than standard resistance-type devices. The measuring head comprises two components made from the same material as the test speciment (1). Each is fixed to the test-piece via notches (11) (12). One member contains a light-emitting diode source (4) and photo-detector (5). A constant-width aperture (7) between the source and detector is supported on an arm fixed to the second member (6). The position-detector comprises two-photo-diodes whose outputs are sensed in a differential amplifier. The difference is zero when the speciment is unloaded. The amplifier output drives an indicator to show the deforming force. Temperature compensation is provided by an electronic circuit which automatically varies the current to the light source.
