Zusammenfassung:1-Methyl-5-nitro-2-phenoxymethyl-imidazoles of formula (I) are new (where A is S or -SO-; R' is Me or Et; R2 is H, Me or halo). (I) are useful in treatment of protozoal infections, e.g. trichomoniasis and amoebiasis, in man and animals. The cpds. also have antibacterial and antifungal activity. A typical cpd., 1-methyl-2-(4-methylthio-phenoxymethyl)-5-nitroimidazole, was prepd. by reaction of 4-methyl-thiophenol with 1-methyl-2-chloromethyl-5-nitroimidazole in dimethylformamide in presence of K2CO3.
