Zusammenfassung:	Conductive heat-up unit for rod material which in order to eliminate unproductive handling times and to reduce heat losses mainly by radiation into atmos. provides two alternately operating heat-up units (1,11). Unit (1) consists of a contact trolley, (3) movable in axial direction of the workpiece (2) provided with electrodes to accommodate the workpiece. During the heat-up operation the workpiece is surrounded by the longitudinally split sleeve (4) with conductors (5) carrying sockets acting as supporting elements for the sleeve. The supporting elements open around a hinge parallel to the longitudinal axis in order to enable the workpiece to be brought in by a lateral transport device. The sleeve (4) has on its surface opposite to the workpiece (2) a layer of ceramic material fitted with reflecting surfaces on the outside. Inside the sleeve are heat generating elements.
