Zusammenfassung:	The conductive heater for long workpieces such as billets and bars has a housing lined with insulation. A cold or preheated workpiece is heated to the hot forming temperature. Heat losses are reduced, especially those caused by radiation and convection. The material is heated rapidly and uniformly right through. The radiation-permeable medium within the housing enclosing the workpiece is held at a temperature slightly higher than that of the workpiece surface. The housing shell (5a, 5b) contains conducting tubes (1) surrounded by insulating ceramic material (10). Reflectors (12) are arranged on the inner surfaces of the shells. Heat is generated within the enclosure by oil or gas burners (14) or by electrical resistance heaters.
