Vehicle wheel suspension for stabilised cornering - with pendant subframe pivoted above centre of gravity to adjust tilt to centrifugal force

Zusammenfassung: | The suspension has a subframe with a cross member (2) to link the wheels. The cross member is linked to the chassis by elastic, damped plates (10, 20) and is suspended from a pivot (8) set above the centre of gravity of the vehicle. As the vehicle corners the body is set to tilt into the corner, and with suitable choice of springs and subframe the amount of tilt can be set to equal the centrifugal force. This provides an upright setting during cornering. The cross member is linked to the pivot point by rigid struts (5, 6) to form a triangle with the cross member. The tilt axis is in line with the vehicle and the struts can be profiled to fit the contours of the body shell. A stable setting for the pivot axis is in the roof line, for maximum effect. |
