1518406 Electrical connectors BUNKER RAMO CORP 24 Aug 1976 [8 Oct 1975] 35228/76 Heading H2E An electrical connector comprises a housing 9 substantially in the form of a hollow cylinder, a connector member or assembly including a contact adapter 1 having at least one contact member 2 inserted therein, being releasably inserted in one end of the housing 9, and cable securing means including a sealing ring 29 and a gland sleeve 28 connected at the opposite end of the housing 9. A securing disc 24 is disposed between the sealing ring 29 and an annular seating within the housing 9 for supporting the ring 29, the disc 24 and the end of the connector member or assembly facing the disc 24 having first and second interlocking means respectively, one comprising axial protrusions, the other defining corresponding recesses receiving the protrusions. As described, the protrusions 25 are on the disc 24 the contact member may be secured to a cable by a cable clamp provided with recesses 21 for receiving the protrusions 25. The cable clamp may be formed as two half shells 14 each having a shoulder 17 at the free end of an arm 16 which enter oppositely located recesses 19 in the adapter 1. Alternatively, the adapter 1 may be formed with recesses for the protrusions, the cable clamp being omitted. The disc 24 may be provided on its face opposite to protrusions 25 with protrusions or corrugations which produce increased friction between the securing disc 24 and sealing ring 29. The cable clamp may be provided with an insert so that cables of a reduced diameter may be clamped. Two cables may be joined by coupling a pair of housings 9 together by means of a coupling ring 12.
