Zusammenfassung:1477493 Fluidised bed furnaces UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 21 July 1975 [2 Aug 1974] 34271/74 Heading BIF [Also in Divisions Cl, C7, F4 and G6] Articles are coated by deposition from a coating gas injected into the base of a fluidised furnace, inert gas being injected to form a sheath around the coating gas without mixing and to form an outer region of the bed rich in inert gas. Particles of atomic fuel are coated with carbon or silicon carbide by the decomposition of hydrocarbon or silicone gases in an electrically heated fluidised bed contained within a graphite part 3a formed with flared nozzles 19, 20 arranged with a central nozzle 19 to which coating gas is supplied and surrounding nozzles 20 to which an inert gas is supplied. The flow of gas to nozzles 19 and 20 are controllable so that the gas flows are separate, and the flow of inert gas can be cut off to allow coated particles to be withdrawn through the nozzle 20 to be collected in a chamber 24, Fig. 3. The flared outer nozzles may be flattened in section. Fig. 5.
