Self-starting single phase induction motor - has non-circular air-gap widening for each pole

A self starting single phase induction motor for household apparatus, tape recorder, record players, etc. has an axis passing through the greatest air-gap widening which forms an angle of less than 90 deg. with the winding magnetic axis. The winding (4) is placed in closed slots (5, 6) of the stator lamination pack (1, 2). A magnetic narrowing (12, 13) is made in the stator lamination stack for each pole outside the above angle between the two axes (9, 14). The lamination stack consists of two sets of symmetrical shape and the portions carrying the windings act as a cushion. The stack is push fitted inside the yoke (2).
