Zusammenfassung:Steel for wire cord ply, where the steel is treated in the ladle with a slag-forming mixt. and with an inert gas, and where the steel contains C, Si, Mn and Fe. The novelty is the addn. of 0.001-0.005% Co and 0.001-0.005% Ca the other constituents being 0.65-0.85% C, 0.2-0.37% Si, 0.3-0.7% Mn, all in wt. %, the balance being iron. The steel may also contain, by wt., all maxima, 0.015% P, 0.015%S, 0.01% Cr, 0.05% Ni, 0.05% Cu, 0.003% O2 and 0.035 N2. The pref. use is for technical rubber prodts. predominantly tyres for motor vehicles, motor-cycles and for aeroplanes, where the tyres are reinforced with the steel wire cord ply. Improved bending strength and stiffness so longer tyre life is obtd.
