Zusammenfassung:Oxalonitrile is prepd. by catalytic oxidn. of hydrocyanic acid with oxygen in an aliphatic ether or nitrile which contains 0-20% water and >=0.01 mol. of cupric nitrate per litre. Oxalonitrile (cyanogen) is an org. inter with many uses including the prepn. of oxamide. Using the above solvents, reaction is rapid and catalyst pptn. is avoided with the result that yields of up to 90% are obtd. (cf. 10-20% previously.
