Zusammenfassung:2-Cyano-4-trifluoromethyl-6-nitro-N,N-dipropylaniline (I) is prepd. by reacting 2-cyano-4-trifluoromethyl-N,N-dipropylaniline (II) with 98% nitric acid at 0-19 degrees C in the presence as solvent of a haloalkane which is liq. at room temp., and opt. in the presence of a water-binding agent. Reaction temp. is pref. 10-13 degrees C. Pref. solvents are CCl4, CHCl3 or CH2Cl2. Pref. water-binding agents are Na2SO4 and MgSO4. (I) is a known (selective) herbicide (cf. DT 2009497). Simple process giving (I) in relatively high yields (I) can readily be isolated in pure form, and the starting matl. (II) is readily accessible.
