Zusammenfassung:1526264 Modified cellulose ethers HOECHST AG 29 Aug 1975 [31 Aug 1974] 35709/75 Heading C3A [Also in Division D1] A modified cellulose ether for improving the water-absorbing capacity and absorbtivity of a fibrous material is a carboxymethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl hydroxy-ethyl cellulose, methyl hydroxyethyl cellulose or hydroxyethyl cellulose which has been modified with a compound of one of the formulae: in which R 1 represents a hydroxyl, acyl amino or esterified carbamino group and R 2 represents a carboxyl group or hydrogen. The modified cellulose ether is applied to the fibrous material in conjunction with a fixing agent, the fixing agent being capable of reacting both with the modified cellulose ether and with the fibrous material, and being selected from carbamates, linear and cyclic urea-formaldehyde condensation products and derivatives thereof, melamineformaldehyde condensation products and derivatives thereof, vinyl acetate homopolymers, acrylic acid-based copolymers and vinyl acetate based copolymers, and is fixed on the material (seeDivisions D1 andD2).
