Zusammenfassung:NaBH4 is extracted from an aq. soln. contg. (in wt. %) : 5 - 12.9 NaBH4 and 35 - 47 NaOH by countercurrent extraction with a solvent, pref. isopropylamine. The solvent is distilled and NaBH4. 2H2O crystals are sepd. leaving an aq. mother liquor of about 32% NaBH4 and 5% NaOH. Instead of recycling the mother liquor, it is diluted with NaOH (contg.) soln. to give a stable 13 - 30% NaBH4 soln. The latter is useful in org. hydrogenation and reduction processes. By not recycling the mother liquor the original NaBH4 soln. feed rate can be increased, and the amt. of decomp to borate is reduced.
