Zusammenfassung:A ferromanganese with 50-80 % Mn, a low silicon content, 0.6-15% P and a C-content up to 2% is made by the conventional silicothermic production of ferromanganese employing as reaction components manganese ore; ferrosilicomanganese, ferrophosphorus or ferrosilicon and phosphorus containing substance and refining the so formed alloy melt by the addition of oxide manganese ore to reduce the silicon content, pref. to 0.5%. Used for the production of low silicon content steels e.g. transformer steels. Such alloy steels with high P content can be prepared without increasing the Si content.
