The small roller brush appliance, which is suitable for picking up the crumbs from tablecloths and furniture, comprises a drive device at one end of the roller brush with a drive wheel which can be driven by a roller. The drive wheel and roller have a gear drive which allows the diameter of the wheel to be kept to a minimum and this together with the fact that the roller brush is only driven at one end allows the size of the sweeper to be very small and compact. The gear drive can consist of inner gearing or outer gear wheels wherein it is preferable if th enumber of cogs of the roller is more than that of the drive wheel so that the transmission from the roller to the brush wheel takes place rapidly.
