There are rectangular cut-outs in opposite faces of the guide bar, open to its outer end, with a flange projecting in along their defining edge. A reversal device, which is no thicker than the guide bar, projecting outwards over the outer end, has two interconnected spaced side plates with connecting components projecting into the cut-outs and overlapping the flange, and between the plates is a sprocket wheel fitted to accommodate the drive lugs and guide the saw chain round the reversal device, with the lateral chain segments at an interval from the latter. Friction at the reversing end is reduced, and the assembly is easily dismantled and exchanged.
