The warp threads are joined by a multi-component weft consisting of a system of loops arranged side by side and overlapping each other. The single threads are joined simultaneously to at least two warp threads, thus permitting fabrics other than in strip form to be woven. Specifically the consecutive loops form sections. The first single thread passes as a loop interweave into the following loop of the following multi-component weft of one and the same section. The second single thread of the same loop passes similarly into the preceding loop of one and the same section. Two neighbouring sections are always joined by interlacing in the form of interweavings of loops of one section around the hooking-up element of the neighbouring section. The loop stitches of each section are joined on one side.
