Zusammenfassung:1444826 Lubricants HENKEL & CIE GmbH 18 Jan 1974 [22 Jan 1973] 02536/74 Heading C5F [Also in Division C2] Ester oil lubricants and hydraulic fluids consist of at least one full ester of a saturated, branched chain, aliphatic monocarboxylic acid with a branched chain aliphatic polyol wherein (I) the monocarboxylic acid has a total of 14- 22 carbon atoms (II) the branching of the monocarboxylic acid chain is at the carbon atom in the α-position to the carboxyl group and there is a hydrogen atom attached to the α- carbon, (III) the polyol has 2-6 primary hydroxyl groups in the molecule. Neopentyl glycol, trimethylol propane, pentaerythritol or dipentaerythritol may be used and the acids may be those prepared by the Guerbet reaction on unbranched alcohols followed by oxidation of the branched alcohol product, or by hydrogenation of carboxylic acid obtained by reaction of 1,3-butadiene, 1,3-pentadiene or isoprene with methacrylic acid esters in the presence of an organometallic nickel complex. Examples describe the reaction of isopalmitic (C 16 ) acid obtained by the oxidation of 2-hexyl decanol formed from n-octanol, and nonadecanecarboxylic acid, with neopentyl glycol, trimethylol propane and pentaerythritol. Mineral oil or other ester lubricants may be present in the lubricants or hydraulic fluids.
