1387599 3-Fluorosalicylaldehyde OLIN CORP 1 Dec 1972 [7 Feb 1972] 55653/72 Heading C2C 3-Fluorosalicylaldehyde is prepared by (a) reacting o-fluorophenol with boron oxide orthoboric acid, metaboric acid, tetraboric acid, or an anhydride thereof in the presence of an inert azeotrope-forming solvent at the azeotrope distillation temperature; (b) adding formaldehyde or a formaldehyde producing substance to the reaction mixture of a period of 1 to 24 hours at 90‹ to 500‹ C.; (c) saponifying the mixture with base; and (d) acidifying the resulting mixture to pH 1 to 7.
