Zusammenfassung:An elongated metal cylinder closed at one end is lined with thermal insulation and contains between its closed end and the open end which is subsequently closed by a welded end cap, a gettering assembly of porous Ba tablets in a perforated Ta can, followed by a nuclear fuel package using plutonium oxide and finally an elongated semiconductor thermo-electric pile. The hot junctions lie against an alumina block into which a threated spigot on the fuel unit is screwed and the cold end against an alumina plate in the seal assembly. The cross section of the pile is approx. 5mm square. The final end seal is of Nb and Nb lead out terminals are insulated from it by alumina plugs. Reliability, compact size and very long life.
