Zusammenfassung:1385007 Illuminated displays VDO ADOLF SCHINDLING AG 9 Aug 1973 [22 Aug 1972] 37740/73 Headings G4H and G5C An apparatus for monitoring various variables of a motor vehicle has an indicating instrument with illuminatable indicating panels 2-11 which are associated with the individual variables and are adapted to be switched on and off by means of switches 12-21 influenced by the variables; wherein there is an illuminatable warning panel 1 of relatively large size and the warning panel and/or the indicating panels are illuminated intermittently and/or continuously in accordance with the importance of the varuble indicated. Actuation of one of the switches 12-21 by its associated variable causes, provided the engine is running in the case of switches 12, 13 (line 51) and the ignition is on in the case of switches 14-21 (line 50), flashing of warning panel 1 (for switches 12, 13) or continuous illumination of warning panel 1 (for switches 14-21), a pulse generator 44 providing pulses for the flashing, this control of panel 1 being via an OR gate 45, 46 or 47 and, in the case of switches 18-21, a flip-flop 48. When the driver presses an acknowledgement switch 43, a flip-flop 42 is set to enable AND gates 32-41, so that the appropriate one of indicating panels 2-11 is illuminated, flashing in the cases of 2-7 (switches 12-17) and continuously in the cases of 8-11 (switches 18-21). In the cases of panels 8-11 (switches 18-21), an OR gate 49 resets flip-flop 48 so that the warning panel 1 is de-energized. De-energization could also occur for panels 4-7 (switches 14-17). Energization of panel 11 is via a flipflop 52 which can only be reset by a relatively inaccessible manual switch 53. The panels 2-11 relate to oil pressure, engine speed, brake fluid quantity, brake lining, oil level, charging check, engine temperature, cooling water quantity, fuel quantity, and outside lighting, respectively. The panel 1 can be above or below the panels 2-11 or they can surround it or it can surround them. Other variables are mentioned. Switch 43 may be operated automatically after a delay, instead.
