Electron beam remelting - with stable oxide slag

In the electron beam remelting of metal blanks to ingots a slag consisting of thermodynamically stable oxides of Al, Mg, Ca, Ba, and Zr is fed into the crucible, into which the metal is melted. The method is used for the prodn. of 0.01-0.02% C-Cr, Cr-Ni, and high alloy steels.
