Lubricants for metal-working - consisting of emulsions of branched-chain paraffin waxes contg carboxyl grps

The carboxyl gp. contg. paraffin waxes are present as salts with alkali metals, ammonia or amines. They are made by oxidn. of polyethylene waxes with branched C chains and number average mol.wts. of 500-10,000, and have acid values of 5-150. The emulsions are made by adding alkalies, ammonia or amines to aq. dispersions of the waxes contg. 0.5-10 wt.% wax, to give a pH of 7-8.5. Non-ionic and/or anionic emulsifiers are pref. included. The compsns., have excellent lubricating and cooling properties and are equally suitable for fast metal-working process which impose low loads on the lubricant e.g. turning, milling, boring, grinding, and for processes with heavy loads e.g. screw-cutting.
