The gunn element dimensions permit a positive energising pulse to change-over its original state of low voltage and high current to a state with low current and high voltage. The application of a sufficiently high resetting pulse of a given polarity results in the element resetting to its original state. Both on the cathode and anode side the element has an additional electrode. One such electrode (R) directly in front of the anode is supplied with the resetting pulse, being in the form of a Schottlay-or PN-contact. Without the effect of the resetting pulse, the contact is so biassed that it just blocks. The resetting pulse may be positive or negative. In the latter instance it has an amplitude sufficient for removal of a stationary electron accumulation.
