Zusammenfassung:1378878 Vibration-dampers for cables ALUMINUM CO OF AMERICA 2 Nov 1971 [19 Nov 1970] 50896/71 Heading F2S [Also in Division H2] A device for damping vibration of a number of spaced electrical conductors 12 has clamps 20, Fig. 2, or 40, Fig. 3, each for gripping a conductor and each including a limb 21 or 42, each limb being connected to another through the intermediary of at least two spring assemblies each comprising a close-wound coil-spring means 23 or 24 or (46) mounted by its ends between spaced arms 16 or 44 and is connected at a point intermediate its ends to a limb of one of the clamps. In Fig. 2 the arms 16 extend from a body 14. Each damping spring 23 or 24 may comprise two springs separated by the limb 21, but as shown a single spring extends through a hole 31 in the limb which can slide along the spring but is centred thereon by open-wound springs 33. If two springs are used, they may have an open-wound portion at the end. There may be more than two springs 23, 24 to each clamp 20 and there may be springs for extra damping disposed at right-angles both to the axes of the springs 23, 24 and to the arm 16 and limb 21. The body 14 may be in two halves 17, 18 joined by pins 27 each of which passes through a spring 23 or 24. In Fig. 3 there are three clamps 40, each with a limb as a body, with a bifurcation at the other end providing arms 44 between which extend a close-wound spring (46) which passes through the limb of another clamp centred by openwound springs (48). The wire of the close-wound springs may be flat, rectangular or square to increase intercoil friction for damping.
