CAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 27 Aug 1971 [28 Aug 1970] 40298/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] The preparation of esters of dicarboxylic acids which contain at least two epoxy radicals, at least one of which is mono- or di-epoxyoctyl or monoepoxyoctenyl, is described. A typical ester is prepared by reacting di(2,7-octadienyl-1) ester of tetrahydrophthalic acid in peracetic acid. An epoxidized product was obtained having 0À57 epoxide equivalent per 100 g. This may be hydrogenated using a Pd on active carbon catalyst. Other epoxy esters were prepared by analogous processes from dioctadienyl esters of hexahydrophthalic acid, hexahydroterephthalic acid and methylbicyclo- [2,2,1]heptene - 2,3 - dicarboxylic acid and from the octadienyl-glycidyl and octadienylmethylglycidyl esters of tetrahydrophthalic acid. The epoxy esters may be cured to form epoxy resins (see Division C3).
