Temp. dependent length change detector for metallic materials - balances linear expansion dilatometer voltage output against compensating potentiometer using adjustable resistor

A dilamoter (1) measures the metal expansion and delivers a voltage to the x, y recorder (2). The temp. compensating potentiometer (3) is gauged with a potentiometer (4) lying between the dilatometer output and the recorder input. The variable resistor (5) is adjusted so that the potentiometer volta...

Zusammenfassung:A dilamoter (1) measures the metal expansion and delivers a voltage to the x, y recorder (2). The temp. compensating potentiometer (3) is gauged with a potentiometer (4) lying between the dilatometer output and the recorder input. The variable resistor (5) is adjusted so that the potentiometer voltage balances the dilatometer voltage in the linear expansion range which occurs when the metal is below the phase transition temperature. Thus phase changes are recorded to high sensitivity since only departures from linearily are registered.
