Plastic lens ventilation - using a screen and electron beam gun

The combined use of an electron beam gun and screen allows a precise pattern of small dia. holes to be imposed at high speed, up to 3,000 holes a second, in contact lens blanks, esp. of plastics. After polishing, the holes allow oxygen to pass through to the eye's surface in wear.
