Circular vent plate for stator core - uses set of spacers which are resistance welded to ring of core steel

The modified form of circular vent plate construction employs a ring of plate material whose outer diameter is equal to that of the core back, and whose inner diameter is slightly larger than the diameter at the base of the winding slots in a normal lamination. The spacer pieces are cut away at the outer end to a depth corresponding to the ring plate thickness. In this cut away section small lands are allowed to remain. By resistance welding of the plate to the spacers at these points the vent plate is constructed without the need for subsequent weld dressing. By using this technique the amount of distortion to the ring due to welding is reduced.
