Zusammenfassung:1323064 Profiled catalyst pellets IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 July 1970 [1 Aug 1969] 38720/69 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A generally cylindrical catalyst pellet having at least one indentation (for example in the form of a groove, cone or frusto-cone) or protrusion (for example in the form of a ridge) formed in or on either or each end surface is prepared by compressing catalyst constituent material in a die between two punches at least one of which has a suitably profiled face. Various preferred shapes for the pellet are fully described and illustrated. A catalyst bed may comprise pellets each having a groove or ridge formed in or on each opposite end surface, the pellets in the bed differing between themselves in respect of the orientation of the groove or ridge formed in or on one such end surface relative to the groove or ridge formed in or on the opposite end surface. The pellet, which may have a diameter and overall length each less than 10 mm., may contain any conventional catalytic material selected for example from silica, alumina, oxides of elements of Groups V to VIII, difficultly reducible oxides of elements of Groups II to IV, including hydraulic cements, and metals of Groups IB and VIII. All the catalyst constituents may be present when the pellet is formed; alternatively, catalyst constituents may be added, for example by impregnation, to the formed pellet. Examples relate to pellets containing, in weight per cent, 2.8Œ0.3 CoO, 12Œ0.1 MoO 3 4.5Œ0.5 MgO and the balance Al 2 O 3 (Example 1) and 32 CuO, 54ZnO and 14 Al 2 O 3 (Example 2).
