Zusammenfassung:The heating tower for blast furnace gases comprises a vertical shaft contained in a metallic housing and is subdivided vertically into two chambers, one being a combustion chamber and the other a refractory chequer work containing heating chamber. The shaft is topped by a cupola, the space below which serves as a connection between the two chambers. The cupola is supported by a separate independent support wall in the vertical shaft of the tower inserted between the inner brickwork and the outer metallic housing. Separate support brackets are the preferred way of supporting this wall. The arrangement successfully prevents the transmission of the various thermal stresses set up in the tower to the cupola thus saving it from these and consequent cracking and failure.
