Zusammenfassung:Liquid crystal media based on a mixture of polar compounds with positive dielectric anisotropy contain one or more compounds disclosed in the applicant's unpublished application DE19855756. The compounds are of formula (I). R and R = 1-10C alkyl or alkoxy or 2-10C alkoxyethyl, alkenyl or alkenyloxy, especially 2-7C alkyl or alkenyl; R = 2-10C alkynyl, especially a 1-alkynyl with 2-4C; A and A = (a) trans-1,4-cyclohexylene optionally with one or more non-adjacent CH2 groups replaced by O and/or S, (b) 1,4-phenylene optionally with one or more CH groups replaced by N or (c) 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-bicyclo(2.2.2)-octylene, piperidin-1,4-diyl, naphthaline-2,6-diyl or deca- or 1, 2, 3, 4-tetra-hydro naphthaline-2,6-diyl, with each of (a) and (b) optionally substituted by 1 or 2 F; Z and Z = -CO-O-, -O-CO-, -CH2O-, -OCH2-, -CH2CH2-, -CH:CH-, -C-triple bond-C- or single bond, with one of Z and Z also being -(CH2)4- or -CH:CH-CH2CH2-; and n = 0 or 1. Die Erfindung betrifft ein flüssigkristallines Medium auf der Basis eines Gemisches von polaren Verbindungen mit positiver dielektrischer Anisotropie, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es eine oder mehrere Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel I DOLLAR F1 enthält, DOLLAR A worin die Parameter die in Anspruch 1 angegebene Bedeutung haben.
