In a negative silver halide emulsion with >= 50 mole-% bromide (AgBr), >= 0.5 mole-% iodide (AgI) and \} 10 mole-% chloride (AgCl), in which >= 70% of the projected area consists of tabular crystals with a thickness \} 0.4 mu m and aspect ratio >= 3 and the grain are coated one layer which is doped with 10 to 10 mole mercury (Hg) per mole total silver (Ag) of the emulsion. Eine Silberhalogenidemulsion mit mindestens 50 Mol-% AgBr, mindestens 0,5 Mol-% AgI und höchstens 10 Mol-% AgCl, die zu mindestens 70% der projizierten Fläche aus tafelförmigen Kristallen mit einer Dicke von höchstens 0,4 _m und einem Aspektverhältnis von mindestens 3 besteht und deren Körner einen geschichteten Kornaufbau aufweisen, wobei eine Schicht, die nicht der Kern und nicht die äußere Schale ist, mit 10 -9 bis 10 -5 Mol Hg/mol Gesamtsilber der Emulsion dotiert ist, zeichnet sich durch eine geringere Körnigkeit aus.
