In order to represent a virtual environment which allows the user to experience particularly natural movements and which can thus be used therapeutically, in particular, in rehabilitation programmes, a surface is provided for the user which can be displaced infinitely in at least one direction. Said surface comprises sensors for detecting motion data from the surface and/or sensors for detecting an exerted force and/or sensors for detecting the position of the user and/or accelerations.
