An exhaust gas, oxygen monitoring probe has a metal sleeve (19) surrounding the connection end of the probe and the cable support spigot (16). A corrugated stainless steel tube (10) is fitted over the sleeve (19) and its end remote from the sensor is sealed around the cable conductors (4,5) by a cylindrical plug (11) of a polymeric material such as FPM or VMQ. An Independent claim is also included for production of a sensor probe by: (a) preparing a corrugated tube (10) to the required dimensions from a bulk length; (b) pushing an end of the corrugated tube over the outside of the metal sleeve (19); (c) laser welding the end of the tube (10) to the outside of the sleeve (19), to form a gas and liquid proof joint (13); and (d) crimping the tube (10) to form a tight seal against the preformed plug (11).
