Zusammenfassung:A binder, for producing moulded bodies used as melting charge material for artificial mineral fibre manufacture, contains a bauxite and marl starting material which has been sintered in a furnace, preferably a shaft furnace or rotary kiln, and then ground, preferably to a Blaine value of greater than 3000 cm /g. Preferably, the binder has the composition (by wt.) 40-60 % limestone or crude bauxite, 3-10 (preferably 6-10, especially 7.54) % SiO2, 50-70 (preferably 52-60, especially 52.66) % Al2O3,0.1-4 (preferably less than 3, especially 2.13) % TiO2, 0.1-30 (preferably less than 12, especially 3.43) % Fe2O3, 1-51 (preferably 30-40, especially 32.7) % CaO, 0-5 (preferably less than 4, especially 0.34) % MgO, 0-1 % K2O, 0-1 % Na2O, less than 0.5 (preferably 0) % Mn3O4, less than 0.5 (preferably 0) % SO3, less than 0.01 % chloride and less than 0.01 % fluoride.
