Zusammenfassung:	Exhaust emissions from a combustion engine are reduced using a catalyst while simultaneously limiting the battery arrangement. Process for improving the exhaust gas emissions from a combustion engine comprises heating a catalyst after starting the engine so that the output of the generator during the heating of the catalyst is reduced until the catalyst reaches a required lowest temperature. During the heating up stage the performance of the generator is adjusted whilst the performance is reduced in such a way that this is larger than 0. The performance compared to the normal operation is reduced after the heating up phase (104, 102). The generator performance is regulated (105) so that the required threshold values of the power supply potential are not exceeded (103).
