Zusammenfassung:	An identification device with a biometric detection unit (6) for sensing a biometric characteristic of a person. The biometric detection unit (6) includes a sensor element (4) which is arranged on one side of an actuating grip i.e handle (15) of an object (17), in such a way that the sensor element (4) is positioned, without contamination from dust and dirt, between the actuation grip (15) and the object during non-actuation of the actuating grip i.e. handle. With actuation of the actuating grip i.e. handle (15), at least one finger (2) of the person rests securely on the sensor element (4), so that a biometric characteristic of the person is detected acoustically, optically, resistively or capacitively.
