Zusammenfassung:The larger axis of the elliptical bearing shell (16) bore (17) runs parallel to the tie-bolts (11) and the larger axis is in the ratio of 1:cos THETA to the smaller axis, with THETA between 0 and 5 deg. The reaming tool (18) used to bore out the bearing shell should be at angle THETA relative the axis of the bore (a), assuming that the shell is first installed in the crankshaft bearing and then bored out. The shell is reamed out before installation in the case of thick wall shells, these then inserted in the shaft bearing once this has been conformably finished. In assembly, the bolts (1) ae drawn tight to upset the shell bore vertically and extend it horizontally, thus providing the circular end shape required.
