Zusammenfassung:	A hygienic toilet paper holder has the paper roll suspended in a yoke located on a base plate so that it can pivot in the vertical direction. The roll is partly covered by a pivoting lid in the upper region. Below the roll (3) is a moistening roller (5) whose surface is always in contact with that of the paper roll, irrespective of the latter's diameter, and the moistening surface is continuously wetted by water or a refreshing cleaning solution. On the base plate below the roll is located a housing (4) open upwards in which is the water or cleaning solution up to a certain height. In this housing, the moistening roller is located so as to be rotatable and to be able to slide vertically.
