Zusammenfassung:The arc extinction method uses adiabatic compression of at least part of the insulation gas contained in the gas storage space (8) of the HV power switch, after separation of the switch contacts (3,4), to provide a liquid directed onto the switching arc for aiding its extinction. The adiabatic compression of the insulation gas can be provided by an increase in pressure within the gas storage space when the switch is opened, effected via a sliding piston (14) displaced against a spring bias (13) upon operation of the switch mechanism.
