The sheathed cable has an external protection casing especially a metallic protective casing, and the conductors or wires project at one end, for connecting e.g. to a sensor. The wires are arranged with insulation inside the casing and insulated against the casing itself. A sealing element made of glass ceramic is fitted or fused in, at least at one end of the metallic casing, in the region of the projecting outwards wire ends. The thermal expansion coefficient of the sealing element in the assembled condition is, at least over the relevant temperature range, approximately equal to the thermal expansion coefficient of the metal or metal alloy used. The thermal expansion coefficient ( alpha ) of the prefabricated sealing element made of glass ceramic is equal to or greater than 10- 1/K.
