Zusammenfassung:A method for sewage treatment in small sewage treatment plants with at least two chambers (1, 2). Sewage (A) passes into the first chamber (1) where heavier solid matter (F) settles at the bottom and a fluid fraction (L) of the sewage is directed towards the other chamber (2) where bacteria beds are placed in order to set up bacterial colonies and aerobic decomposition of the still existing constituents occurs and a drained, clarified water body (w) arises. According to the invention, part of the drained and clarified water (w) flows, by suction of flowing fraction (L) of sewage carried out by a first pump device (4) in a following chamber (2), back into the top section of the first chamber (1) through one or more openings (Ö). Further, biomass layer which continuously stems from bacteria beds is redirected to bacteria beds (3) by suction of the water layer existing below the bacteria beds (3) via a secon d pump device (7) from their top section and outside the stationary liquid. Pump devices (4, 7) are programmed to operate with interruptions.
