Zusammenfassung:	The method monitors a vehicle driving directly in front of a vehicle provided with a distance monitoring appts. for monitoring a distance between the vehicle and the vehicle in front. A vehicle distance to the vehicle in front is detected in uniform distances. The change in vehicle distance in each successive interval is calculated and a decrease is detected. It is determined that the vehicle in front is slowing down when a decrease is determined for a predetermined number of successive intervals and the decrease for the number of intervals begins at a speed which is greater than a predetermined speed. A system for carrying out the method includes the distance monitoring appts.. It also has an arrangement to determine the vehicle condition to calculate a change in vehicle distance over the given number of successive intervals.
